My first wedding of the year and what a location. The beautiful 19th Century DoubleTree Hotel and Spa Liverpool. The hotel is a hidden gem right in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. I always love wedding photography in Liverpool and the Double Tree is one of my favourite hotels for photography.
The hotel is a stunning venue for weddings, with plenty of beautiful areas inside the hotel to capture the story of the wedding day so for once you don’t have to worry about the weather. Laura and her guests were staying overnight in the hotel which is where I met them in the morning to do the bridal prep. Scott who was my second photographer on the day, meet the groom and the lads at Laura and Callum’s house where they had photographs taken there before they traveled down to the DoubleTree.
The wedding ceremony took place in the Canon Suite. I always prefer to shoot without using flash during the ceremony and the large windows and clean white walls are ideal for this type of photography. Following the service drinks were served and the guests then made the way to the library lounge for some chill out time. During this time, I like to get natural shots of the guests as these are the moments the bride and groom often miss on the day.
The wedding guests then moved to the Corinthian Grand for the meal and speeches. Callum was really set up by his two best men who really delivered an excellent video and slideshow to embarrass him during the speeches which were really enjoyed by everyone even Callum. After the meal, we moved outside to get some group shots and also one of my favourite photographs of the day, the confetti shot. I always encourage my weddings to get their guests to bring as much confetti as possible as this always makes a great shoot and is totally natural. Before the nighttime started we noticed the opportunity for a sunset image so quickly we jumped in a taxi and headed down to the Albert Dock where we managed to get a sunset shot but also some images in front of the Liver Building. We then returned to the hotel to photograph the cake cut and first dance complete with the confetti cannons which made for some great pictures.
